How we keep people safe on ICENIC sites, and what we expect from everyone who works on them.
ICENIC Builders operates under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. As a PCBU we are responsible, so far as is reasonably practicable, for the health and safety of our workers, our subcontractors, our clients and anyone else affected by our work.
On site
Every job runs to a site-specific safety plan. Before work starts we identify the hazards particular to that site — access, excavation, working at height, services, neighbouring properties — and agree the controls with everyone who will be on the ground. Site inductions are required before anyone starts work, and the plan is reviewed as the build changes.
Our people
Our team holds the qualifications and licences their work requires, including Licensed Building Practitioner registration where that applies. Task-specific training — scaffolding, height safety, plant operation, first aid — is kept current, and apprentices are supervised by qualified staff.
Subcontractors
Subcontractors working on ICENIC sites are expected to hold their own health and safety systems, current insurance and the licences their trade requires. We ask for that documentation before work begins, and we expect subcontractors to take part in site inductions and toolbox talks like everyone else.
Speaking up
Anyone on an ICENIC site can stop work if they believe it is unsafe, and no one will be penalised for doing so. We would rather lose an hour than have someone hurt. Concerns can be raised with the site lead, the project manager, or directly with us.
Incidents
Injuries, near misses and notifiable events are recorded and investigated so we can fix the cause rather than the symptom. Notifiable events are reported to WorkSafe New Zealand as the Act requires.
Clients and visitors
An active building site is a workplace, not an open property. If you are a client or a visitor, please arrange your visit with us first so we can brief you and make sure the site is safe to walk. Personal protective equipment may be required.
